Third-party developers for the Disk System were also angered towards Nintendo's strict licensing terms, requiring that it receive 50% copyright ownership of any and all software released - this led to several major developers, such as Namco and Hudson Soft, refusing to produce games for it. The add-on itself was produced by Masayuki Uemura and Nintendo Research & Development 2, the same team that designed the Famicom itself. The Disk Card format presented a number of advantages over cartridges, such as increased storage capacity that allowed for larger games, additional sound channels, and the ability to save player progress. Seeing its potential, Nintendo began work on a disk-based peripheral for the Famicom.įor its proprietary diskette platform, which they dubbed the "Disk Card", Nintendo chose to base it on Mitsumi's Quick Disk media format, a cheaper alternative to floppy disks for Japanese home computers. So I’m a huge fan of David Sparks and his mini podcast. If I was binging this show instead if watching it week by week I probably wouldn’t be having these moments at all. It was really only a few moments though and they didn’t make the overall episode not enjoyable. Even though Doumeki is amazing and could really have been my favourite character in a show without a Kanamori, there were instances of them just listening to things or scouting sounds where my mind kind of drifted and I found myself checking stuff on my other screen instead. Maybe it’s because I just don’t understand and relate to sound design as much as I do other aspects of the production. In the interest of balance, I will say that some scenes in the latter half of the episode went on a bit too long for my taste. I know it’s a fictional story but sometimes I feel like it’s trying to say something about a real industry and I’m more than happy to listen. It just grounds the series with this sense of potential reality which makes me care about it a little more.
